WV Truck Driver Named to America’s Road Team

Clarence Jenkins, Jr., a truck driver for UPS Freight and a resident of Poca, West Virginia, was recently named by the American Trucking Associations (ATA) as one of 16 drivers nationally to be a part of the 2007-2008 America’s Road Team.

Jan Vineyard, President of the West Virginia Motor Truck Association, said, “It is certainly an honor to have a West Virginian named to America’s Road Team, however, it is no surprise that Clarence Jenkins was chosen.  He is a role model for truck driving professionals and I have no doubt that he will represent the industry exceptionally well.”

Poca driver makes an elite squad

A Poca truck driver has been named to the nation's most elite team of big rig drivers.

Clarence Jenkins, a 56-year-old driver for UPS Freight, was one of 16 drivers from around the country selected as a captain of America's Road Team.

When he's asked to recall his most memorable experience as a truck driver, Clarence Jenkins lights up talking about a time -- one of the few -- when his truck wasn't on the road.

He was 18 years old and just starting out as a driver for Charleston-based Cohen Drug. And he'd set his sights on the bright-eyed Lugean, a young woman who worked in the company's warehouse.
